Debate!
The first of the Presidential Debates occurs this Wednesday evening. Watch the debates and report back with who, in your opinion, won the debate, and why? Try to watch these debates from an unbiased perspective and ask yourself whether these individuals are simply repeating memorized lines and phrases, or if you think they are actually thinking originally and proposing real ideas. In essence, are the debates merely another platform to repeat rehearsed slogans, or are they the only opportunity for the candidates to speak their minds freely?

In my eyes, Mitt Romney clearly achieved victory in tonight's debate. With his informative, supported discussions about our country's political turmoil, Romney showed up Obama in more ways than one. Romney restrained from merely attacking Obama's views, but still got his point across in a relaxed manner. When discussing economic issues, Obama continuously reiterated Romney's plan to raise taxes on the middle class; in reality this was never Romney's plan at all, which he made known in his educated rebuttals. Obama seemed to be defending himself for the majority of the debate, instead of bringing his own new ideas to the floor, as Romney was. Even though Obama's views are more well known due to the fact that he has served as our nation's president for close to four years, progress in American economics has declined during his presidency; therefore, Obama must develop and communicate different methods of "solving" the economic crisis to the American people in order to regain support and the office of president.
ReplyDeleteThese debates are most certainly an opportunity to show America what the candidates' real views on political issues are without being prompted by a TV screen. Obama did not seem comfortable without his teleprompter, and therefore failed to present his side of the argument in an effective manner.
http://ivn.us/editors-blog/2012/09/28/saturday-night-live-on-undecided-voters-funny-right-and-wrong/ This has nothing to do with this post, but it reminded me of what we've talked about in Gov.
